Best Places to Visit in Ladakh
Leh
The capital city and the most common base for a Ladakh trip, with its palace, several monasteries, and the main market for a day of acclimatization.
Pangong Lake
This high-altitude lake extends right into Tibet and has famously changing hues of blue depending on the time of day. It is about a 5-hour drive from Leh.
Nubra Valley
It is accessible via one of the highest motorable passes on the planet, Khardung La, and is home to sand dunes and unique double-humped Bactrian camels, with additional monasteries at Diskit and Hunder. Consequently, it remains a major highlight of our circuits.
Thiksey and Hemis Monasteries
Two of the most famous monasteries near Leh with great views and religious significance.
When is the Best Time to Visit Ladakh?
| Season | Month | Weather | What to Expect |
| Summer | June–September | Sunny and warm (15-25°C) | Peak season: The main travel season – the roads are open and the weather is at its best. |
| Early/Late | May, October | Sunny and cool | Shoulder season: Fewer crowds, but some high-altitude passes may still be closed. |
| Winter | November–April | Cold and snowy | Off-season: Most of the high-altitude passes are closed and inaccessible by road. |
The traditional Ladakh tour season runs from June until September. Outside of these months, the higher-altitude passes are inaccessible due to snow, making travel to Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and other remote regions of Ladakh difficult or impossible.
A Note on Altitude
Leh is situated at about 3,500 meters above sea level, and most other popular destinations in Ladakh are at a similar or greater altitude. As a result, altitude-related illnesses can occur and should be taken seriously. We, therefore, recommend that you spend at least one night in Leh to acclimatize before continuing to other destinations. Resultantly, our schedules prioritize safety first. Moreover, it is best to speak with a medical professional before your trip if you believe you may be particularly vulnerable.

How bad is altitude sickness in Ladakh?
Altitude sickness is a very common occurrence in Ladakh, and we recommend that before traveling to any high-altitude locations, you spend a night or two in Leh acclimatizing.
